When choosing a future profession in grades 9-11, it is important to let the child choose an educational institution to his heart and in no case put pressure on him. About this in the media center “On the Field of Mars” at the round table “Do young people everywhere have a road? How to choose a profession of the future and not miscalculate,” said psychologist and teacher Irina Belyaeva.
According to her, modern parents are no longer so sure that they can definitely tell the child that this profession is for him.
“Because we understand: there is no longer a question of choosing a profession for life. It is important to understand what exactly a teenager chooses. One, entering a technical school, chooses a specialty that will help him feed himself and pay for higher education. The second one just wants to have a great time at the university for five or six years, studying what he likes, meeting interesting people, finding the right connections. Someone perceives study as the definition of a life path and dreams of a Nobel Prize. Someone wants to get an interesting job. Everyone has different goals and motives,” Belyaeva said.
The psychologist emphasizes that today one of the most important skills is the ability to learn, and people sometimes change several professions throughout their lives.
“How do we accept a child’s choice that we don’t like? Ask yourself – why do you want him to become a doctor? Because you didn’t become one yourself? Here you need to work with yourself, not with the child. Otherwise, it can be lost. It’s better to just ask him why he makes such a choice, what attracts him to the profession, help analyze all the pros and cons and support, ”recommended Irina Belyaeva.
