Global shipments of personal computers (PCs) and tablets in 2023 will decrease by 15.2% and amount to 384.8 million units, research company International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts.
IDC significantly worsened its forecast compared to March, when it predicted a decline in sales by 11.2%, to 403.1 million units.
Demand for PCs and tablets continues to weaken, and many macroeconomic indicators have either worsened or remained unchanged in the past few months, IDC notes. However, in 2024, the company’s analysts expect the market to recover and predict an increase in PC and tablet shipments to 403.1 million units. By the end of 2027, according to IDC forecast, shipments will reach 425 million units.
The situation in the global economy remains difficult, and therefore, consumers are limiting spending, and companies are postponing purchases, IDC emphasizes.
PC sales, according to the forecast of the organization, in 2023 will decrease by 14.1%, to 250.8 million units, tablets – by 17.1%, to 134 million.
