The State Duma adopted a law on compulsory insurance of taxi passengers, according to which, from September 1, 2024, the amount of insurance payments will be increased four times.
According to the document, a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur who has received permission to transport a taxi will have to insure their liability in the amount of 2 million rubles. for causing harm to the life of a passenger. Insurance will be purchased for each vehicle that has been approved to be transported as a taxi.
Under current legislation, taxis are not subject to the law on compulsory civil liability insurance of carriers (OSGOP). In this regard, the injured taxi passengers are protected only by the OSAGO law, according to which the maximum compensation for the death of a person is 500 thousand rubles.
The law should come into force on September 1, 2024.
At the same time, the Minister of Transport of Russia Vitaly Savelyev, in a letter to the chairman of the State Duma Committee on the financial market Anatoly Aksakov, proposed to postpone the entry into force of the bill to September 1, 2025, writes RBC. In my opinion, Savelyev, the law entails an additional financial burden on individual entrepreneurs and self-employed people who carry out the activity of transporting passengers by taxi using their own vehicle.
