Pakistan paid Russia for the first shipment of crude oil delivered to the country in yuan, Pakistani Oil Minister Musadi Malik said in a conversation with Reuters. However, he did not name the price and discount with which Islamabad received fuel.

The minister said that the volume of this batch amounted to 100 thousand tons, of which 45 thousand tons are already in the port of Karachi. According to Malik, the Pakistani company Refinery Limited will handle the oil refining.

Before that, Malik reported on the purchase of a batch as a trial to assess the financial and technical feasibility of buying crude oil in Russia, the agency notes. “We have tested various blends of products and under no circumstances will there be a loss in refining this crude oil,” Malik said.

Pakistan Energy Minister Dastgir Khan, reporting on the acquisition of the first batch of Russian oil, claimed that the payment was made in dollars. At the same time, he emphasized that Islamabad was ready to conclude a long-term oil deal with Moscow in yuan.

On June 12, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the first ever batch of Russian crude oil had arrived at the port of Karachi. He noted that the oil cargo was received at a discount and called it a “significant day” for the country.
