The election period in Ecuador is experiencing its first peak of intense movements. Until tomorrow, June 13, 2023, at 11:59 p.m., political parties and movements will be able to register their candidacies, after the period of internal democracy that ended on Saturday, except for the question of coming to the primaries with decisions to only certify them.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) receives applications from applicants and must qualify them in accordance with the fulfillment of the conditions required by law. The early elections, which will be held on August 20, are a test of the speed, transparency and ethics of the electorate.

The CNE has so far qualified only one presidential podium

On June 4, members of the 24 provincial election boards were trained on the process, election calendar milestones, candidacy registration process, application notices and legal resources. 13,450,047 people are authorized to vote for the election of president, vice president and representative in the state and provincial assemblies.

The distribution of provincial election committees marks the control of the presidential and parliamentary elections next August

The head of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, admitted that in order to develop the process in 90 days, as established in the constitutional death cross, adjustments had to be made outside the Code of Democracy. It hides behind the election period it gives to the body that gives maximum powers and claims that otherwise the deadlines would not be respected.

The electoral authorities accepted the challenge. For the first time, Ecuador is facing elections resulting from the application of death by crucifixion established by the Montecristi Constitution of 2008.

The responsibility of the actors in the process is on the ground, both in terms of the campaign – the expected and official phase in which Ecuadorians witness the verbal aggressiveness with which votes are sought – and in the development carried out by the CNE, obliged to offer elections and results in which there is no doubt that they only harm democracy.
