Authorities in Kurgan region report first death from counterfeit cider poisoning

A resident of the Kurgan region, who was poisoned by a surrogate cider produced in the Samara region, died. This was reported by TASS with reference to a representative of the press service of the governor of the region.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, the girl was hospitalized in serious condition at the beginning of the week in the Kurgan Regional Children’s Hospital with poisoning with a low-alcohol drink containing methanol. The doctors, however, failed to save her life, and the patient died today, June 11th.

The exact cause of death will be established as a result of an autopsy, but now we can say that a large dose of methanol got into the girl’s body, the source said.

At present, there is one more person injured as a result of poisoning with a low-alcohol drink in the intensive care unit of the Shadrinsk Central District Hospital. The condition of the man is moderate, closer to satisfactory. There is no threat to life.

Two cases of poisoning with counterfeit cider were recorded in the region. The Investigative Committee for the region opened a criminal case, Part 2 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
