Psychologists from the University of Wroclaw decided to determine the ideal height of a partner for men and women, and also to study how preferences in partner height change depending on the purpose of the relationship. They conducted a study that involved 536 people (including 333 women) from Canada, Cuba, Norway and the United States – they were asked to choose a partner of ideal height for short-term and long-term relationships.
It turned out that men, on average, prefer women shorter than they are – an average of 164 to 167 cm – 2.5 cm below the average level of women in their country. Women tend to prefer men who are taller than they are – an average of 179 to 180 cm, and 2.3 cm taller than the average man in their country.
At the same time, women’s preferences for men’s height did not differ depending on the type of relationship. However, the results of a survey among men showed that tall men more often prefer short women for short-term relationships than for long-term ones.
The study was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology.
