Further U.S. military assistance to Kiev, as well as U.S. President Joe Biden’s international reputation, depend on the success of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) counteroffensive, some Washington administration officials say. Their opinions are given by the newspaper Politico.
If the Armed Forces succeed, officials say, the West will continue to send military and economic aid to Kyiv. If unsuccessful, the newspaper notes, “this support could be withdrawn, prompting more insistent calls for an expedited diplomatic solution” to the situation in Ukraine. In this regard, Politico emphasizes, “The White House is watching the Ukrainian counteroffensive with concern, realizing that Biden’s reputation is at stake” and the outcome of hostilities.
In addition, according to the newspaper, representatives of the Washington administration said they are not sure whether lawmakers will allocate additional funds for Kyiv when the amounts approved by Congress come to an end. Failures on the battlefield, they said, could enable House Republicans to create obstacles to providing Kyiv with additional funds.
Recall that earlier US President Joe Biden said that Western countries, including the United States, did “everything they could” to support the Ukrainian troops, and “are very optimistic.”
