The 15th-century icon “Trinity”, painted by Andrei Rublev, after being exhibited in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, will be sent for restoration to the Grabar Center. After that, a transfer to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra is planned, said Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova in an interview with Izvestia.
“How long will the restoration take? It’s not a fence, and Tom Sawyer won’t be painting. Of course, there will be scientific advice, in parallel it is necessary to make a completely different kind of capsule – even more serious, even safer for this image, ”she said.
Referring to experts, Lyubimova added that the restoration work could take up to a year. She also stressed that there is a museum in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, so the icon “will remain in the state collection.” According to her, the ROC does not oppose this.
“This is not a transfer from the federal property of the state catalog of the Russian Federation of museum valuables for use. This is a responsible use within the museum community, where both the Ministry of Culture and the management of the Lavra Museum will be responsible for the preservation of the image,” the head of the Ministry of Culture said.
