The administration of US President Joe Biden is concerned about reports of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. According to Reuters, now in Washington they are trying to find out the potential consequences of the incident.

The UN, meanwhile, said that the destruction of the hydroelectric dam poses an additional threat to the already in a difficult situation, the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. According to UN Secretary General António Guterres, the organization does not have information from independent sources about the circumstances that led to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam. Nevertheless, the UN is observing the consequences in Kherson, Nova Kakhovka and 80 other cities and villages along the Dnieper, he added.

In turn, the chairman of the government of the Kherson region, Andrei Alekseenko, said that the city of Alyoshki was practically flooded after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. Moreover, the situation is complicated by forest fires due to shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he pointed out.

According to Alekseenko, the evacuation of people from the flooded Aleshki is possible only with special equipment.

Recall that on the night of June 6, the upper part of the hydroelectric power station was destroyed as a result of shelling.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of blowing up the dam, calling the incident a terrorist attack. In the EU, the blame for the destruction was also placed on Moscow. The Kremlin denied the allegations and said that what happened was a “deliberate sabotage” by the Ukrainian side.

On this fact, the investigative committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under the article on a terrorist attack. As reported in the press service of the department, the destruction of the object occurred as a result of actions “on the part of the armed formations of Ukraine.”

The company “Ukrhydroenergo” reported that the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station cannot be restored, as it is completely destroyed.
