The European Commission will extend the ban on the supply of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine to five countries: Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, the Polish agency PAP reports, citing its sources in Brussels. The fact that the EC has prepared a draft document to extend the ban was also announced by Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus.

“We have received from the EU a draft of a new regulation prohibiting the import of 4 goods in 5 countries,” he said, explaining that they plan to extend the ban until September 15. “This is a project, but I hope that it will come into force from tomorrow,” the minister wrote on social networks.

A ban on the export of Ukrainian wheat, rapeseed, corn and sunflower seeds to five European countries was introduced on May 2 for a period until June 5. The transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through these countries remains permitted, it can be freely traded on other European markets. The reason for the ban was that the sharp increase in exports of agricultural products from Ukraine in 2022 caused discontent among farmers from the EU countries closest to it – Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
