Armenia’s participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) creates “certain problems”, but does not limit opportunities for cooperation with different countries, Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the country’s Security Council, said.
According to the Aysor edition, Grigoryan mentioned the recent negotiations that Yerevan had with one of the Western countries and where the issue of supporting Armenia in a “non-military” form was discussed. “Initially, when we discussed, they said that Armenia is a member of the CSTO, but when the working group arrived and we had discussions, their attitude towards Armenia changed in many issues,” the politician said on the air of the Public Television of Armenia.
He also added that Yerevan is discussing the issue of arms purchases “with many countries.” According to him, within the framework of some negotiations there are already results, within the framework of others – a dialogue. continues.
After another escalation of the conflict with Azerbaijan in the fall of 2022, Armenia asked the CSTO to provide it with military assistance. The organization opposed forceful methods of resolving the situation. At the beginning of 2023, Armenia refused to conduct the CSTO “Indestructible Brotherhood” exercises on its territory, and in May Pashinyan did not rule out that the country could leave the organization.
