Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Alexei Reznikov on the sidelines of the Asian Security Forum “Shangri-La Dialogue” in Singapore suggested using “all possible means” to end the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Vladimir Gavrilov in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to him, the Ukrainian side at the meeting “sought to deepen Beijing’s understanding of the situation on the ground.” Gavrilov also added that the head of the Chinese Defense Ministry promised to expand military ties with Kiev. “They are ready for communication in order to expand contacts between the Ukrainian and Chinese military leadership. <…> I hope that after the meeting we will see some dynamics,” he said.
In addition, the deputy minister said that representatives of Ukraine at the summit “several times” contacted the US delegation, including a meeting between Reznikov and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.
Li Shangfu became head of the Chinese Ministry of Defense in March this year. A month later, he visited Moscow, where he met with the Russian military leadership, as well as with President Vladimir Putin.
