After checking more than 4.8 thousand bomb shelters in Ukraine, it turned out that more than a quarter of them were closed or unusable, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Igor Klymenko said.

According to the minister, 252 of the checked shelters turned out to be closed, 893 were unusable. “All violations were recorded. The drafted acts were handed over to the responsible authorities to eliminate the shortcomings,” Klymenko emphasized, adding that such checks will be carried out in the future.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, in turn, said that more than a thousand complaints had been received from the people of Kiev per day about the state of the shelters. According to him, almost half of the messages say that the shelters are closed, a quarter refers to the poor condition of shelters, another quarter of Kiev residents complain that there are no shelters near their place of residence, RBC reports.

Klitschko added that the information is being systematized and by the end of the day it will be transferred to the “municipal security department, district state administrations of the city and other services that will be involved in checks and proper response.”

Checks on the condition of bomb shelters began after people came to the shelter in the polyclinic of the Desnyansky district of the city during an air raid in Kyiv on the night of June 1, but it turned out to be closed. Because of this, three people died when the debris fell.
