In case the “grain deal” fails, Kyiv has a backup plan. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Nikolai Solsky, in an interview with Reuters.
He noted that Ukraine has a “Plan B” to continue grain exports if Russia pulls out of the deal. Kyiv is ready to offer insurance guarantees to companies so that they continue deliveries – this time without Russia’s participation.
“Plan B … excludes the fourth party (Russia) in these relations,” the minister said.
Earlier, Russia notified the Istanbul Joint Coordinating Center of the decision to limit the registration of ships to the port of Yuzhny near Odessa due to the lack of exports of Russian ammonia.
Recall that Russia and Ukraine separately concluded a “grain deal” with Turkey and the UN last summer, after which its validity was extended several times. The agreement should guarantee the safe export of Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea, as well as the removal of restrictions on the access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market. However, Moscow has warned several times that since the part of the initiative concerning the removal of restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers is not being implemented, the Russian Federation may refuse to extend the agreement. As part of the grain agreement, the Russian Federation is also seeking the resumption of the operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline.
