Chinese airlines bound for the US have begun to avoid flying over Russian airspace. This is reported by Reuters, citing data from FlightAware flight tracking service and industry sources.
It is specified that we are talking about flights recently approved by the US authorities.
Thus, in May, the US Ministry of Transport approved new weekly flights that do not affect Russian airspace: Air China (Beijing – New York), China Eastern (Shanghai – Los Angeles), Xiamen Airlines (Xiamen – Los Angeles) and China Southern (Guangzhou – Los Angeles). The US has also allowed Chinese airlines to operate 12 round trip flights per week.
Earlier, senators Robert Menendez and James Rish made a call to ban Chinese airlines flying to the United States from flying over Russian territory. Later, the US Department of Transportation developed a corresponding draft order, The New York Times wrote.
Recall that in 2022 Russia closed the airspace for some countries in response to the closure of their airspace for Russian aircraft.
