Ukraine will be provided with Starlink satellite communication terminals. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing a statement from the Pentagon.
The press release clarifies that the American company SpaceX has signed a contract with the agency for the provision of satellite communications services. The amount of the transaction and the number of terminals are not given for security reasons.
According to media reports, the terminals are likely to be purchased as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which provides for measures to meet Kyiv’s long-term needs. At the same time, last fall, the head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, publicly stated that he would not continue to supply terminals for Ukraine for free, and also proposed his own scenario for resolving the conflict, the publication reminds. It also writes that SpaceX has previously won contracts to launch the most important satellites for US national security.
Earlier it was reported that since the start of the Russian military operation, SpaceX has provided Ukraine with at least 24,000 Starlink stations. At the same time, “Russia is conducting tests to limit the work of Starlink in Ukraine,” The Washington Post wrote.
