In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the incidence of syphilis in Russia. As Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health for infectious diseases, explained, one of the main reasons is the increase in migration flows.
He did not give specific indicators of the incidence of syphilis.
According to Alexei Mazus, chief freelance specialist on HIV infection at the Ministry of Health and the Moscow Department of Health, quoted by RBC, the positive dynamics of the incidence among Russians is associated with a low level of syphilis registration among patients with HIV infection.
At the same time, Ekaterina Terentyeva, head of the Invitro medical examination department, notes that syphilis, like any infectious disease, is characterized by waves of incidence, when periods of increase are replaced by periods of calm. The expert emphasizes that the spread of syphilis is directly related to the behavior of people, with social characteristics. Also, the increase in the incidence may be due to an increase in the number of examinations for syphilis. Another growth factor, she said, can be considered the uncontrolled use of antibiotics.
