Bilateral agreements on mutual recognition of insurance certificates “Green Card” between the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RUA) and the insurance bureaus of the EU countries, Switzerland and the UK ceased to be valid on June 1. According to RBC with reference to the PCA, insurance issued in European countries is no longer valid in Russia.
Similarly, Russian certificates have ceased to work in the European Union, Great Britain and Switzerland.
For other countries, Russian Green Cards will continue to work as usual (we are talking about such countries as Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Serbia and Turkey).
The PCA clarified that now, in order to enter the European Union, Switzerland or the UK, drivers need to obtain a border insurance policy of the country they are entering at checkpoints. To travel across Russia in cars registered in the European Union, Great Britain or Switzerland, drivers will need to purchase a Russian OSAGO policy.
So, when crossing the border with Finland, policies can be bought at the Finnish customs. Such insurance is provided for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year. In Finland, the minimum cost of car insurance is €180.
The termination of the work of Russian “Green Cards” in the EU, Switzerland and the UK was reported back in May last year.
