Several events are held in localities of Ecuador for the World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

In Ambato a mass and the launch of balloons were held to pray for the victims of femicides and that no more women die in this way.

Different activities were developed in various localities of the country to remember the World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated every November 25

In Ambato they began at 09:00 with mass in the Cathedral in gratitude to life and in tribute to the victims of femicide in the province of Tungurahua.

Monsignor Geovanny Pazmiño, bishop of the Diocese of Ambato, regretted that the woman in our midst is so mistreated and violated.

Given this, the religious warned that this means going against God’s law and called for all those present to commit to continue working for the dignity of women, fighting so that they have a leading role and their place in their various tasks daily care such as home and work, where they even endure episodes of violence on certain occasions.

“We all know that violence is not only physical, but it is also often psychological that women receive, for that reason we must shout from the rooftops so that women do not shut up, and so that we as institutions also belong to the civil society we can have sites and spaces for help so that we can continue to protect the gift of life, “added the prelate.

He added that women as a source of life must be protected not only by the State but also the task of the entire society.

Also Ángela Fonseca, president of the National Union of Journalists (UNP) in Tungurahua, joined the call for women who are violated to break the silence and reaffirm their courage. She added that gender equality in society is very important to get ahead in the face of this problem.

Later, in the Montalvo park, with purple balloons the symbolic act of raising a letter to heaven was carried out to ask for all the women who were victims of femicide and that there are no more victims due to those conditions.

Maritza Gamboa, president of the Ana de Peralta collective, regretted that in Tungurahua since 2014 there have been 42 femicides that took the lives of women and that so far this year there have been 4 cases, of which 2 were in Pelileo, and the rest in Mocha and Ambato, respectively.

In Esmeraldas

The empowerment of public and private institutions, education and talks by couples were several of the recommendations given in the second university forum for the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at the Luis Vargas Torres de Esmeraldas Technical University.

Twelve lecturers participated in the conclave organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Services (Facsos) on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th.

The talks covered topics such as the analysis of violence resulting from the confinement of COVID-19; alerts to get out of the circle of violence; entrepreneurship with a gender focus in Chachis communities; chronology of the reason for the route of attention to victims of violence; laws to protect against violence, said Kathya Díaz, dean.

In addition, the meeting had an open house with various topics related to the protection of women.

Ana Buenaño, a teacher, said that more than 500 cases of femicides were registered by the Prosecutor’s Office from 2014 until the beginning of this month.

While some 338,166 complaints of gender violence have a follow-up of 1’127,220 presented in this institution, according to Carlos Holguín, another of the speakers.

This year, ECU911 received a daily average of 319 emergencies related to domestic violence, nationwide. With a total of 103,516 until last week, while in 2019 it was 111,472 and 102,799 in 2020.

Rosario Rivera, coordinator of the Forum for the Comprehensive Development of Women and the Family, in Esmeraldas (Fodimuf), revealed that they attend to about 40 new cases of gender violence on a monthly basis. From January 2021 to the present they have 431 cases of women (I)
