Artyom Uss, the son of the ex-governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, who was under house arrest in Milan awaiting extradition to the United States, was taken out of Italy by a “gang of Serbian criminals,” writes The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Uss was able to escape from the Italian police, relying on an “international network” of people who helped him and changing several cars. At least once he changed transport and crossed the borders of several countries on his way to Serbia, from where, presumably, he flew to Moscow.
Italian authorities believe that Russian intelligence agents were not directly involved in the escape because the risk of being watched was too high, one of the sources said.
Recall, Artem Uss was detained on October 17, 2022 at Milan Malpensa Airport at the request of the US authorities, when he was about to fly to Turkey. The US Attorney’s Office charged him with violating Western sanctions against the Russian Federation and Venezuela, illegal transactions and money laundering. Italian judges allowed the extradition of Artem Uss to the United States, but at the same time eased restrictions on him, replacing detention with house arrest. At the end of March, Uss managed to escape and return to Russia. The Italian Ministry of Justice later announced that it intends to check the Milanese judges who made the decision to place Uss under house arrest.
