The fall of aircraft, including drones, on the property of Russians is an insured event. True, RIA Novosti clarified in the All-Russian Union of Insurers, only on the condition that this is not related to hostilities. Otherwise, additional coverage of such risks will be required.
The organization indicated that if a citizen’s property is insured against the risk of “falling on the insured property of aircraft or parts thereof”, then the fall of a UAV on a car, house, apartment and other property may be an insured event. But according to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, the interlocutor of the agency pointed out, the insurer is exempt from paying insurance compensation and the sum insured when the insured event occurred as a result of: the impact of a nuclear explosion, radiation or radioactive contamination; military operations, as well as maneuvers or other military measures; civil war, civil unrest of any kind or strikes, unless otherwise provided by the insurance contract.
In other words, if the incident occurred as a result of hostilities, then it will be recognized as an insured event only if the insured has a contract that provides for military risks. This extension is not offered by default, the organization stressed.
