More than 50 people sought medical help after Serb protesters clashed with NATO-led International Security Forces (KFOR) in northern Kosovo and Metohija. It is reported by TASS with reference to the Vecherne Novosti newspaper.
According to the director of the clinical center in Kosovska-Mitrovica, Zlatan Elek, more than 50 people were admitted to a medical facility with injuries from stun grenades, rubber bullets and firearms.
On Monday, according to the publication, KFOR officers attacked Serbs who had been protesting since morning in front of an administrative building in the municipality of Zvecan in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija. According to the newspaper, the Serbs held a peaceful protest in front of the administration building, which was occupied by representatives of the Pristina special police on 26 May. On Monday, KFOR officers arrived at the municipality. The publication indicates that NATO members asked people to move away from the building, after which the vice-chairman of the Serbian List party, Igor Simic, asked the protesters to sit on the ground with their hands up to show that they were not armed and the protest was peaceful. Then KFOR dragged Simic inside their cordon.
After that, more than 30 stun grenades were thrown into the crowd and tear gas was sprayed, and shooting was heard from representatives of the Pristina police, Vecherne Novosti reports.
On Monday, KFOR officers blocked citizens’ approaches to the buildings of the city administrations of Zvecan, Leposavić, Zubin Potok and Kosovsk Mitrovica. According to a statement by the Serbian National Security Council following an extraordinary meeting on May 27, the international security forces under the auspices of NATO, contrary to their obligations, ignored the aggression by the Kosovo security forces in Serbian municipalities and did not prevent attempts by the self-proclaimed authorities in Pristina to take control of the buildings of a number of municipalities.
On May 26, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance with an appeal for urgent action to stop the violent actions against Serbs in Kosovo. Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vučević stressed on Monday that the Serbian army has been put on high alert due to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and is ready to carry out any task that Vučić gives it.
