The Tverskoy Court of Moscow in July will consider the administrative claims of the Wikimedia Foundation Inc. (the owner of Wikipedia) who, through the court, asks to declare illegal the requirement of the Prosecutor General’s Office to block access to a number of publications. It is reported by Interfax.
“The conversation on two claims of the Wikimedia Foundation against the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Anatoly Razinkin, and Roskomnadzor is scheduled for July 10 at 9:45 and 1:25 Moscow time,” the court representative said.
The court explained that in both lawsuits, the Wikimedia Foundation asks the court to invalidate Roskomnadzor’s notices about the violation of the procedure for distributing information on Wikipedia and the requirements of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation to take measures to restrict access to this information.
In 2023, Wikimedia was repeatedly fined for not removing fakes about the SVO, information about organizations recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation, and other information prohibited in the Russian Federation from Wikipedia. The total amount of fines imposed on the fund in these cases is about 10 million rubles.
