The United States strongly condemns the transfer of Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus, but so far sees no reason to reconsider the readiness of its nuclear forces. According to Interfax, this was stated by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
āI will not talk about any facts or estimates that we may have. I will say that we strongly condemn this agreement, this is another example of the irresponsible behavior that we are seeing from Russia, āhe said.
He reiterated that the US “sees no reason to change its approach with regard to the readiness of nuclear forces.”
Earlier on May 25, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the transfer of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to the republic had already begun. To a clarifying question whether tactical nuclear weapons are already in Belarus, Lukashenka said that he would clarify this upon his return to the republic.
In the morning it became known that the defense ministers of Belarus and Russia Viktor Khrenin and Sergei Shoigu signed documents in Minsk defining the procedure for keeping Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of Belarus.
