Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova confirmed the exchange of prisoners with the Ukrainian side on May 25. According to RBC, according to her, the exchange was carried out by Wagner PMC.
“Today PMC Wagner held an exchange of prisoners. Congratulations to our guys on their return to their homeland. We wish them and their families all the very best,” she said.
Earlier, the head of the office of the Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak announced the return to Ukraine of eight officers and 98 soldiers with sergeants from the Artyomovsk direction. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not report on the exchange.
Later, the press service of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner, published a video in which the businessman communicates with a group of men at night (their faces are hidden) and informs them that they will be exchanged. He also says that the bodies of two foreigners who died in Artemovsk, from the United States and Turkey, have been handed over to Ukraine. Prigozhin also said that the Turk, along with his partner, whose body could not be found (only documents remained), were killed in the explosion of one of the buildings mined by the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the retreat.
