Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that in the West, his detractors used the international media to spread false information to prevent him from winning the elections. It is reported by Interfax with reference to Hurriyet.
“Insidious psychological tricks were used in the international press against us. It was a lie and falsification, which was then repeated by the Turkish opposition,” the Turkish leader said.
He did not specify who exactly, in his opinion, is behind such actions, limiting himself to the wording “Western groups.”
The President added that the first round of elections on May 14 demonstrated the “strength of Turkish democracy.” According to him, the way the electoral process is going in Turkey is a strong response to those who accuse Turkey of being a dictatorship.
“We have shown that statements about a dictatorship in Turkey are absolute nonsense,” Erdogan said.
The second round of the presidential elections will be held on May 28. The first round was won by Erdogan (49.52% of the vote) and the head of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroglu (44.88%).
