A draft law has been submitted to the State Duma providing for the obligation of schoolchildren to work taking into account age characteristics and without parental consent, including cleaning the classroom, planting trees on the school grounds, helping in the library, sewing theater costumes. “In order to strengthen the role of labor in the educational process, the draft federal law proposes to correct the concept of education, supplementing it with a component aimed at shaping students’ industriousness, responsible attitude to work and its results. The proposed novels refer to the duties of students to participate in socially useful work, provided for by the educational program, taking into account age and psychophysical characteristics, maintaining frequency and order in its (school) walls, ”the explanatory note to the bill 365972-8, submitted to the State Duma, says.
Also, the rule prohibiting the involvement of students without their consent or without the consent of their parents (legal representatives) to work not provided for by the educational program will disappear from the current law.
Chairman of the Duma Committee on Education, one of the authors of the bill Olga Kazakova said that the bill proposes “already at school to form a sense of personal involvement in the matter and responsibility for its result: today in the form of simple everyday skills – such as the ability to put things in order, cleanliness in the classroom, At school”.
The draft law was also sponsored by United Russia deputy Andrei Isaev, State Duma vice speaker Pyotr Tolstoy, communist deputies Nina Ostanina, Oleg Smolin and others.
In November 2022, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, at a government hour with the participation of the head of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov, suggested that deputies develop a draft law on labor education in schools, lamenting that today any work activity of students requires parental permission, including to wash the blackboard or take part in class cleaning.
