Today marks two years of the government of President Guillermo Lasso.

The current scenario should certainly not be the one he envisioned when he took power in 2021, with poor public acceptance and on the verge of leaving office, due to death on the cross, which he was forced to resort to due to the accumulation of reasons, which history will speak of in due course. and which are not the reason for this column.

Two years of campaigning

After the cross of death was confirmed and the elections were called, the first candidates began to appear; part of the old politics, dissatisfied with the damage he caused to the country, started his candidacy in the only style he knows: destruction, insults and stigmatization. How little and how poorly they read people, who are fed up with shouting and accusations, memes and troll centers; which is crying out for solutions to its serious problems, which are becoming more and more difficult every day, security, health, education and work.

Because apart from looking for someone to blame for the unfortunate political and institutional moment that the country is experiencing, or colluding with the president or with the Parliament, you will agree with me, dear reader, that lately the level of political discussion has already reached the floors, immersed in a swamp of insults , fierce accusations, disqualification and stigmatization from both sides.

Choices and changes in sight

Many public officials, political leaders, journalists, analysts, as well as idiotic weak minds converted into WhatsApp political scientists, have taken the public debate, which should be a high-level debate on major national issues, into an underground of bile and bad milk, far from delineation. proposed solution, they remained at that, in the dung that politicians threw at each other in defense of their interests.

So, from this column, we call on the political class to raise the level of public debate in this short election campaign.

Dictatorship was inevitable

If a state is not capable of effectively protecting the lives of its citizens, it has no reason to exist.

Let this campaign become a space for discussion about the country’s major problems, about proposed solutions that each candidate or political trend intends to implement if they come to power.

The state has had enough of blablabla and is looking for concrete solutions for the diseases that plague people in intensive care.

And among these big problems, public safety is the most important, because without it, the progress of a nation is not possible. If people are dying in the streets, neither macroeconomics nor public works make sense. If a state is not capable of effectively protecting the lives of its citizens, it has no reason to exist.

And in this sense, I publicly welcome the response that candidate Jan Topić gave to the avalanche of attacks, disqualifications and insults that have come to him since he announced his candidacy for the presidency. I hope that the other candidates will devote themselves to raising the level of public debate in this campaign.

If they want, they will get it, and above all the state. (OR)
