Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeev said that the Kyiv authorities would soon receive 110 Leopard 1A5 tanks. It is reported by TASS with reference to Makeev’s page in the social network.
“110 Leopard 1A5. Soon,” Makeev wrote. He gave no other details.
The Ukrainian ambassador also posted a video with a tank standing in a hangar against the background of the German Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
In the first quarter of this year, the German government approved the supply of military goods to Ukraine for a total of almost 497 million euros. On January 25, the Cabinet of Ministers confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and issue permission to other countries to re-export these vehicles. On February 7, the German Cabinet approved the delivery of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Kyiv. On February 24, Germany decided to supply Kyiv with four more pieces of equipment from the stocks of the German Armed Forces.
In mid-May, the German Defense Ministry issued a message stating that the country’s government was preparing a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 2.7 billion euros. It was noted that Berlin plans to transfer to Kiev 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 30 Leopard 1A5 tanks, 200 reconnaissance drones, logistics vehicles, four IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as ammunition. The list includes 18 howitzers and 100 armored vehicles.
