While most Ecuadorian families receive minimum wage. It is surprising to see a member of parliament claim that his salary barely allows him to live. This leads us to question whether or not it is worth supporting a bureaucracy that contributes little to social development with the people’s money. Two terms are useful for analyzing the value of a service: “use value and exchange value”.
The first, “use value”, refers to the utility of the good for the satisfaction of a need. If the service provided by the dissolved Parliament is analyzed from this perspective, most citizens agree that it did not satisfy our hopes for a better country. In this sense, we can state that the professional services that caused conflicts, confusion and discomfort were paid for in vain.
Representative Luis Almeida assures that his salary is not enough, that it will run out in the first week
The second, “exchange value”, denotes ownership of the exchange of one good for another. In this regard, we have successively brought several characters to the parliamentary seats through civil declaration, but we have only received successive political crises. So we have invested huge resources in a lousy service.
reestablishing mediocrity
When someone receives defective goods in everyday life, they have the right to request a refund. Also, this principle should be applied to public officials who promise – during election campaigns – to make proposals that will improve the country; but, as we have noted, the only thing they improve is their particular social status. In a way that it would be fair to ask for our money back, because the service of the Assembly was terrible and instead of bringing good, it contributed to chaos in the country.
Maybe it’s time to choose not only parliamentarians and proposals, but to evaluate your ministry semi-annually.
Perhaps, through guilt, we have weakened our ability to choose those who should occupy representative positions; This is the only way to explain that we made a mistake by voting for people who caused instability and social unrest. Therefore, for the upcoming elections, it would be useful to establish a guide for the selection of our representatives. We can use some criteria, such as the quality of the candidate, his professional and civil career and what kind of guarantee he offers us or what kind of good service he will provide.
But maybe we need a realistic and honest perspective. Maybe it’s time to choose not only parliamentarians and proposals, but to evaluate your ministry semi-annually. It would be good if we had citizen participation mechanisms (automatic and digital) that would allow us to “evaluate” the work of each member of parliament and public servant; therefore, those who do not satisfy and do not respect their workplace, would be dismissed and we should return the funds we have invested, because in case of deficient service it is fair to have compensation.
There is no doubt that To change the country, we need better public servants, people who are more committed to the people, who love Ecuador more than their pockets. and that, in short, they are people who embody human values and social commitment. We need a transparent, efficient, accessible and quality Assembly; who account for their actions based on tangible evidence. (OR)
