Police recover 22 archaeological pieces that would have been obtained from Chile and Argentina

It was indicated that the archaeological pieces would be destined for the countries of Europe.

The National Unit for the Investigation of Crimes Against the Right to Culture of the National Police carried out an operation in the vicinity of the Machala Terrestrial Terminal and in the surroundings of the Parque de la Madre where 22 archaeological pieces were recovered, an Ecuadorian and a Venezuelan They were arrested.

“We recovered twenty-two pieces of patrimonial characteristics, fourteen archaeological objects of ceramic and lithic constitution; and eight fossil objects that, after preliminary investigative efforts, would have been obtained in countries such as Chile and Argentina ”, explained Sergeant Víctor Chiliquinga, from the police unit.

It was said that these objects have great scientific, cultural, as well as economic interest, and visual characteristics of belonging to the national and international cultural heritage, “it is presumed that they obtained from clandestine excavations, others were obtained in Latin American countries,” added the official.

It was indicated that the archaeological pieces would be destined for the countries of Europe, where there are internet pages for auction, a fragment of archeology could cost up to 300 euros.

The evidence was entered at the Center for the Collection of Evidence and Evidence, and at the same time the respective expertise was carried out by technicians from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC).
