Lung cancer is one of the most common and dangerous types of cancer, with a high mortality rate. And one of the main causes of this pathology is smoking.
As Ruslan Basanov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, oncologist, told Gazeta.Ru, harmful chemical compounds contained in tar and nicotine are embedded in the genetic material of the cell and damage it, causing cancer. The expert noted that in the early stages, lung cancer is asymptomatic, but when the disease begins to progress, a person notices symptoms such as cough, sometimes with blood, shortness of breath, hoarseness, chest pain, weight loss, bone pain and headache.
Basanov added that there are a number of adverse factors that actively provoke the onset of the disease. One of them is environmental pollution. Exposure to carcinogens such as aluminum, arsenic or beryllium causes thousands of diseases each year, including lung cancer.
He noted that air pollution, which provokes lung cancer, is especially common in industrial areas with a large concentration of heavy and chemical industries. Another factor is an unhealthy lifestyle. Alcohol abuse, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, an unbalanced diet can seriously affect health, the doctor explained.
To minimize the risks of cancer, you should give up bad habits. Quitting smoking completely can also help prevent or reduce your chances of developing lung cancer.
