The United States, together with its allies, will train Ukrainian pilots to operate fourth-generation fighters, including American F-16s. This was stated by US President Joe Biden at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky at the G7 summit, RBC reports.
Biden stressed that the Ukrainian authorities promise not to use Western fighter jets to attack Russian territory. He also said that such equipment would not have helped Ukraine in Bakhmut (Artemovsk), even if it had been delivered earlier.
In addition, Biden added that he does not expect the participation of fourth-generation F-16 fighters in the hostilities during the upcoming offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but believes that they will be involved “if Ukraine achieves success in the short term.”
Recall that earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets is a “long-term project”, since, in his opinion, Kiev will not be able to receive modern aircraft “in the near future”.
