The words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the situation in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) were misinterpreted by journalists, the head of state did not recognize the loss of control over the city, said the representative of the politician Sergei Nikiforov.
In his message on social networks, Nikiforov explained that journalists asked two questions in a row: “Mr. President, is Bakhmut still in the hands of Ukraine? The Russians say they’ve taken Bakhmut.” After which Zelensky replied: “I think not.” “Today, Bakhmut is only in our hearts. There is nothing in this place,” the head of state added.
Zelensky’s representative explained that the Ukrainian leader was answering the second question and thus “denied the capture of Bakhmut.”
Financial Times correspondent Christopher Miller, in turn, wrote on social networks that he discussed Zelensky’s response with his team, which also did not confirm the loss over the last districts of Bakhmut. According to them, the words about the loss of the city meant that it was completely destroyed.
We will remind, earlier the Associated Press agency reported that Zelensky at the G7 summit in Hiroshima confirmed that Russia had established control over Artemovsk (Bakhmut), as the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin stated the day before.
