China strongly protested the statements made at the G7 summit in connection with the situation around Taiwan and Chinese nuclear power. According to RBC, this is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic.
The G7 speaks of “moving towards peace, stability and prosperity”, but in reality it impedes international harmony, damages regional stability and stifles the development of other countries. Such actions do not inspire any international confidence,” the Chinese foreign ministry said.
Beijing emphasized that Taiwan is Chinese territory, and the solution of the Taiwan issue is “a matter for the Chinese people.” Also in China, they criticized the “economic coercion”, which was called the unilateral US sanctions imposed against the republic. “We advise the G7 not to be complicit in economic coercion,” the statement said.
China also declared a strong commitment to nuclear security and the international system, of which the UN is the core. At the same time, as noted in the ministry, “the international community does not accept the“ Western rules ”, which are dominated by the“ Big Seven ”. In conclusion, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that “the era when a few developed Western countries senselessly interfered in the internal affairs of other countries and manipulated global processes is gone forever.” In this regard, the republic called on the members of the G7 to “fit in with the spirit of the times” and focus on “solving their own problems.”
On May 20, the G7 countries expressed their readiness to cooperate with China “in solving global problems, as well as in areas of common interest, given its role in the international community and the size of the economy.” At the same time, the G7 will take steps to “reduce over-reliance in critical supply chains” on China.
Before the summit, Politico reported on the threat to the unity of the G7 due to the “Chinese threat”. According to the publication, the US and Japan are serious about the potential threat of China’s invasion of Taiwan and seek to unite their European allies to confront China, while some members of the G7 do not consider the “Chinese threat” a priority.
