Carriers announced that the dialogues with the Municipality on the increase in the price of the ticket failed

50% of the urban bus fleet has been paralyzed since last November 9.

A new meeting of the transport union took place this Wednesday in Guayaquil to keep 50% of urban buses paralyzed, this after the declarations of the mayor Cynthia Viteri, who on Tuesday confirmed that there will not be an increase in the price of passage.

Cristian Sarmiento, director of the Federation of Urban Transporters of Guayas (Fetug), mentioned after the meeting with his colleagues that no agreement has been reached in the two meetings that have been held with delegates of Mayor Cynthia Viteri, and mentioned that on Wednesday afternoon they will hold a meeting with the governor of Guayas, Pablo Arosemena.

Sarmiento hopes that Arosemena will intercede and hold a meeting directly with the mayor to discuss the price increase, however, the mayor has mentioned that there will not be an increase until the service provided by the units is improved.

The representative of the carriers insists that a technical study be carried out to establish what the fair price of the ticket would be, considering that five years ago there has been no increase in the rate and that the price of fuel has risen.

Samaniego mentioned that last year a study was carried out in Quito considering the price of fuel at $ 1.03 per gallon, and that it was determined then that the price of the ticket should be $ 0.42. Today a gallon of diesel costs $ 1.90.

Currently the ticket costs $ 0.30, and Sarmiento assured that the union will not accept an increase of less than $ 0.10, that is, the carriers expect the price to rise to at least $ 0.40.

Since November 9, 50% of the buses have been paralyzed as a measure. (I)
