Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that in the spring Moscow allegedly tried to overthrow the pro-European government in Chisinau and bring pro-Russian forces to power. According to TASS, Sandu indicated that the plans failed, including due to the information at the disposal of the country’s authorities and the vigilance of the Moldovan authorities.

“We are sure that they will try again, but I don’t have specific information about this,” Sandu added.

Previously, she had already accused Russia of introducing a hybrid war, the purpose of which is to overthrow the government through protests in the country and achieve early elections. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Chisinau’s statements about “Russia’s plan to destabilize the situation in Moldova” unfounded and unsubstantiated.

Recall that mass opposition protests have been taking place in the country since the summer of 2022, demonstrators accuse the authorities of being unable to cope with the economic crisis and falling living standards. The opposition also expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the authorities to increase military spending and demanded that funds be redirected to the social sphere.
