British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak imposed a ban on the import of Russian diamonds, copper, nickel and aluminum. According to Interfax with reference to the Sky News channel, Sunak announced this at the G7 summit.

“Later this year, we will pass a law to ban the import of Russian diamonds and stop all imports of copper, aluminum and nickel of Russian origin, building on existing bans on Russian iron and steel,” the prime minister said in a statement released by his office.

In addition, Britain is imposing sanctions on 86 individuals and companies associated with the Russian military-industrial complex.

According to the statement of the head of the British government, among those who will fall under the sanctions will be those “who are involved in key income streams such as energy, metals and shipping.”

At the same time, a list of specific individuals and companies has not yet been presented.

Sunak noted that London has already imposed sanctions against more than 1.5 thousand individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation, freezing assets in the UK in the amount of more than 18 billion pounds. The restrictions affected more than £20bn of trade in goods between the United Kingdom and Russia, he said.

The G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21. The participating countries will discuss the maintenance of sanctions against Russia, as well as support for Ukraine, including in the field of reconstruction and restoration of infrastructure.
