NATO plans to approve “thousands of pages of secret military plans” at its July 11-12 summit in Vilnius in the event of a possible confrontation with Russia. For the first time since the Cold War, the documents will include a defense strategy against Russian forces, according to Reuters.
Journalists point out that previously NATO did not consider it necessary to draw up such plans, since it was about conflicts of a smaller scale. But for now, the alliance wants to focus on modernizing its forces and logistics.
The Spanish publication El Pais adds that the document outlines a plan for updating information about various threats posed by Russia, as well as preparing possible responses from the alliance. Threats emanating from the Russian Federation are called the use of military force, a cyberattack or a “hybrid attack”.
Earlier, The New York Times noted that the fighting in Ukraine pushed the alliance to take decisive action, which makes it a combat-ready bloc. Currently, NATO has deployed multinational troops in eight countries along the eastern border with Russia.
