Freezing the conflict in Ukraine is absolutely not in the interests of Poland or any other EU country. According to RBC with reference to radio station Zet, this was stated by the head of the Bureau of International Policy of the Office of the President of Poland, Marcin Przydacz.
“Such a risk of freezing the conflict and unfreezing it from time to time exists. This is absolutely not in the interests of either Poland or any other EU country,” he said.
According to Przydach, freezing the conflict will only play into the hands of Russia, which, after such a “strategic pause”, can gain strength for new hostilities.
Russia and Ukraine started negotiations shortly after the start of the special operation. In March, after a meeting of delegations in Istanbul, Moscow received proposals from Kyiv. However, the dialogue was then interrupted. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this happened at the initiative of Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kyiv has moved away from the implementation of the Istanbul agreements.
Since then, Ukraine has developed its own peace initiative – the so-called peace formula, which, among other things, provides for the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity. The Russian authorities called this formula unrealistic and inadequate to the current situation. As emphasized in the Kremlin, Moscow does not recognize any plans for a settlement from Kyiv, if they do not recognize the annexation of new territories to Russia – the LNR, the DNR, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
On the anniversary of the start of the special operation, China also proposed its peace plan. Putin noted that these proposals could form the basis of a settlement in the future. Together with the PRC, France also wanted to develop an initiative later. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this country, like the United States, Great Britain and Germany, cannot be mediators in resolving the conflict, since they themselves participate in it.
