All cat owners know that fluffy pets often prefer to drink water from the tap, lick from the sink, climb into the owner’s cup – just not to drink from their own drinking bowl. Why they do this, the experts told the Belnovosti portal.
In fact, cats do not like it when their sensitive vibrissae touches the edges of the bowl while drinking. Therefore, if the bowl of the animal is too narrow, then the pet may look for another place to drink.
At the same time, if the cat has a wide and flat bowl, but it stands on the floor, the water easily collects all the dust on itself – and the cat does not want to drink contaminated water. Also, the water bowl can be too close to the food bowl, which is also uncomfortable for cats, and also creates an additional risk of water contamination.
As a result, the cat finds a source of water that suits her as much as possible – for example, a dripping tap, where the water, in her opinion, is clean and flowing.
Experts recommend that if you want to teach your cat to its own bowl, choose a container that won’t touch the cat’s whiskers, and keep a vigilant eye on the cleanliness of the water, changing it at least once a day. A drinking fountain in which water moves can also come in handy. It is highly likely that a small predator will like such a watering place.
