The United States at the G7 summit intends to announce a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, aimed at implementing previously introduced restrictions. Jake Sullivan, adviser to the President of the United States, spoke about this.

According to Sullivan, the conflict in Ukraine will take a significant place in the discussion of the leaders of the “Big Seven” at a meeting in Japan, where the American delegation headed by US President Joe Biden is heading.

At the same time, Sullivan noted, the countries of the Group of Seven will not agree at the summit in Japan on the introduction of a comprehensive ban on the export of Western goods to Russia. They will discuss the issue of frozen Russian assets.

The US leader’s aide was also asked whether the EU and the G7 would introduce new restrictions on Russian gas supplies. To this he replied that he would leave it up to the EU.

“They are working on it,” he commented.

Note that the G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21. The participating countries will discuss the maintenance of sanctions against Russia, as well as support for Ukraine, including in the field of reconstruction and restoration of infrastructure.
