Someone once said that Ecuador is a big hacienda overlooking the sea. If we analyze the political context in which the country has developed since it was declared independent from Spain and became a republic, we could unfortunately conclude that this is so, because the struggle for power to be maintained or retained, as the case may be, by a few who believe that they have the right to govern us and therefore the owners, masters and masters of our wealth and people, a similar scenario exists from those beginnings to the present day in which we live, but with different actors.

After the libertarian cry, political parties were created that took turns in command, and even in electoral theft, for which they are still accused today. At present there is a proliferation of these, plus political movements, all of them, or almost all of them, with an infinite desire to be elected by the people to “rule us”, not only to meet the pressing needs we suffer, but to enjoy the privileges that this means , and in many cases, become a millionaire overnight, after having deceived the voters with false promises, because they rarely fulfill them.

And this is the most outrageous and unbearable of all. They don’t care that people are struggling for drinking and tap water, that they don’t have a decent house to live in, that their health is not taken care of, that children and young people are victims of drug addiction, that teachers and pensioners are crying out for scholarships and fair pensions, that there are no local roads with which the products of poor farmers who are currently suffering from heavy rains that have destroyed their crops could be procured; that people have lost their loved ones and their homes due to landslides, that informality continues to grow because there are not enough jobs, that investors refrain from investing capital because of the legal uncertainty we suffer and, worst of all, that roads, streets and squares have become tracks of blood caused by organized crime that has become uncontrollable in a growing wave of insecurity and terror.

There is no need for evidence of a crime that does not appear to have been committed. Not. The plan is perfectly Machiavellian…

At the trial of President Las, there is no other goal than to get hold of the “crown” at any cost. Innocent dead and wounded will not be counted and the closure of businesses that will take place in our beloved capital. Neither are the great losses that we all suffer and that will further impoverish the Ecuadorians. It is not even considered whether the process that starts today against the president has a legal basis in which his departure is justified. There is no need for evidence of a crime that does not appear to have been committed. Not. The plan is perfectly Machiavellian: the only thing that counts is the end, not the means.

The play is clear. Who is behind this whole macabre scenario? It’s not hard to guess. Those who, as we said, chase the cake to share it as it touches them.

All this farce is due to one single reason: the struggle for power. (OR)
