The US Treasury has included Russian Mikhail Matveev on the sanctions list because, according to Washington, he is involved in hacker attacks on the infrastructure of law enforcement agencies and US enterprises. It is reported by Interfax.

According to the US Department of the Treasury, Matveev was born in 1992 and lives in Kaliningrad.

The legal structures of the counties of New Jersey and Columbia released indictments against the Russian. The US State Department announced a reward “up to $10 million for information that could contribute to the arrest and / or conviction of Matveev.”

According to the Ministry of Finance, “Matveev was a central figure in the development and deployment of ransomware programs such as Hive, LockBit and Babuk.” It is noted that in 2021, from sites that hosted the Babuk virus, in particular, cyber attacks were carried out on the police department of a “major US city”. According to Washington, “in a public interview, Matveev claimed responsibility for posting the stolen police department data on the Internet.”

In addition, the document notes, Matveev was associated with hacker attacks on several American companies, including the airline.
