The Supreme Control Chamber of Poland is checking the actions of government departments in connection with the discovery in the forest near the city of Bydgoszcz of fragments of a rocket, presumably, which fell in mid-December. According to TASS, this was announced by the chairman of the chamber, Marian Banas.
According to him, the check will be carried out in the Ministry of Defense and some other state institutions.
“The situation is very delicate and dangerous. A Russian missile that can carry nuclear weapons has hit our territory,” Banas said on the air of the Polsat TV channel.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, commenting on this information, said at a press conference that the Supreme Control Chamber exists just to find out potential violations. “There is nothing unusual here,” the head of government believes.
On April 27, the Polish authorities reported that in the vicinity of the village of Zamost, about 15 km from Bydgoszcz, fragments of an “unidentified airborne military facility” were found. The RMF radio station found out that it was an air-to-surface missile with inscriptions in Russian – possibly a target launched by the Polish military during the exercises. Later, the same radio station, citing the results of the examination, reported that the missile found was the X-55 strategic aviation cruise missile. There is no official confirmation of these data from the Polish authorities and the military. Information is classified.
The Polish Armed Forces, in the context of this find, reported an incident that took place in mid-December. Then the Polish air defense detected a certain object in the airspace, but could not find it due to difficult weather conditions. It is assumed that fragments found in the forest may be this object. The investigation is ongoing.
Now the leadership of the Ministry of Defense is considering the resignation of several senior officers of the Polish army due to the fact that they did not send sufficient forces and means to search for this object in April, and also did not promptly inform the head of the defense department Mariusz Blaszczak about the incident, about which he announced May 11. Until April, Morawiecki did not know about the incident either. The command of the Polish army claims to have informed the leadership. The opposition, in turn, is seeking the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Defense.
