The wife of the former Federal Chancellor of Germany (1998-2005) Gerhard Schroeder So Yong Kim-Schroeder was fired from NRW.Global Business after she and her husband attended a reception organized by the Russian Embassy in Germany on May 9 on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in The Great Patriotic War, TASS reports citing German media reports.
Mona Neubaur, a spokeswoman for the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Economy, told reporters that Schroeder-Kim was immediately relieved of her post, and now the employment relationship with NRW.Global Business will be terminated “without prior notice.”
The ex-chancellor’s wife worked for NRW.Global Business as a representative in South Korea. NRW.Global Business, according to Neubaur, told Schroeder-Kim several times that its representatives should not speak publicly on “politically sensitive topics”, in particular, in relation to current events in Ukraine.
In Germany, Schroeder is regularly criticized for his close ties to Russia. Earlier, the budget committee of the Bundestag approved the demand of the ruling parties to deprive the ex-chancellor of some of the privileges, which, in accordance with the law, are financed from taxpayers.
