The US Central Intelligence Agency has created a Telegram channel for recruiting Russians, writes RBC. A message posted to the channel states that “the CIA establishes a presence on Telegram for the first time.”

The channel also published a propaganda video in Russian lasting about two minutes. The characters in this video are civil servants or people who have access to documents. The videos and posts contain various instructions. On the morning of May 16, almost 700 people were subscribed to the telegram channel, the agency notes.

According to CNN, citing CIA sources involved in the project, the fighting in Ukraine created a historic opportunity “for the Russians to come in and provide the information the US needs.”

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the channel “a very convenient resource for tracking people who apply.”

The intention to recruit Russians dissatisfied with the special operation was reported by the CIA in November 2022. The Russian embassy in the United States then said that this decision “confirms the hostile course of Washington,” which is aimed at “weakening Russia from within through sophisticated subversive methods.”
