Of the $48 billion US aid package to Ukraine that the US Congress approved in December 2022, there are about $6 billion left, Politico reports. This means that by mid-summer the money for the supply of weapons to Kyiv in the US budget may run out.
The newspaper notes that the amount of remaining funds raises concerns among some lawmakers about the future plans of the White House, including the fact that the administration of President Joe Biden will ask Congress for funds for another large aid package. However, many congressmen interviewed by the publication believe that funding will continue without interruption, especially given the expected UAF counteroffensive.
According to a Biden administration official, the White House is now discussing the allocation of a new tranche of military assistance to the Ukrainian side. It is not known exactly how Ukraine’s needs may change during or after the counteroffensive, the source said, but the administration is “fully committed” to supporting Kyiv in the long term.
