Berlin demanded that Beijing close secret Chinese police stations operating in Germany, writes Bloomberg. German authorities believe that China needs these organizations to “control and intimidate” overseas Chinese.
Negotiations with the Chinese side on this issue have been going on since November 2022, said German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Andrea Sasse. In February, the Chinese government denied that it was setting up illegal police stations in Germany, she said. However, Beijing acknowledged the work in Germany of some “service stations”, which he promised to close.
Despite this, Interior Ministry spokesman Maximilian Kall told reporters that at least two Chinese police stations still operate in Germany, the work of which is closely monitored by local authorities. According to Call, “these are not stationary offices, but mobile sites.” The police spokesman noted that such departments operating in different countries are often associated with Chinese intelligence agencies.
